The Correctional Managed Care team is dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). This role plays a vital part in the UTMB Health operation, ensuring that mental health evaluation and therapeutic intervention are delivered effectively within secure correctional environments.
You will work under the supervision of a Psychologist, Mental Health Manager, or Program Director to provide comprehensive mental health services. Your day will involve interviewing, evaluating, and diagnosing patients with mental health needs, followed by delivering individual and group psychotherapy and crisis intervention. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing Individual Treatment Plans while maintaining clinically appropriate and timely documentation.
Beyond direct patient care, you will assist in training medical and mental health staff, support Quality Improvement programs, and liaise with patient families and community agencies to coordinate treatment and aftercare services. This position requires navigating the unique environment of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center, where security clearance and adherence to strict reporting structures are essential.
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, along with licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Professional Counselor, Psychological Associate, or Social Worker. The selection process includes a mandatory pre-employment drug test and the acquisition of necessary security clearance.
