The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) serves as a critical partner in patient care, bridging the gap between clinical diagnostics and laboratory precision. In this role, you will obtain specimens, perform complex examinations across hematology, blood banking, chemistry, and microbiology, and ensure the integrity of every result reported. This position is designed for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating the ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and service excellence.
You will be the face of the laboratory for patients and physicians alike, interacting with a diverse range of individuals to provide care appropriate to their specific age groups and needs. Your work directly supports the organization's mission by ensuring that test results are available in a timely manner, allowing for critical clinical decisions to be made without delay.
Your day begins with organizing the department and ensuring that all laboratory instruments are set up and functioning correctly. You will perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and rigorously assess quality control data to guarantee the reliability of test results. Whether you are processing requisitions, labeling specimens with precision, or reviewing abnormal data, your attention to detail is paramount.
Beyond technical duties, you will foster a culture of Service Excellence. This involves communicating effectively with customers using established protocols, maintaining a professional appearance, and collaborating with colleagues to solve problems. You will also play a key role in mentoring students and participating in staff meetings to stay current with new techniques and industry standards. While the work can be demanding, with a high rate of speed and frequent interruptions, your organizational skills and ability to prioritize will ensure that the most critical tasks are completed first.
Candidates must be graduates of a NAACLS-approved educational program and eligible for the MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP) registry exam. Certification is required within 12 months of hire. The selection process focuses on identifying individuals who are customer-focused, service-oriented, and capable of working both independently and within a team. We look for candidates who demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, leadership potential, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic environment.
We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive workplace. This position is classified as "at risk" for occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens (including HBV, HCV, and HIV), and all team members must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe care. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background and encourage individuals from all walks of life to apply.
This role requires a full range of body motion, including standing for 67-100% of a shift, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and reaching above the shoulders. Excellent verbal communication skills, corrected vision, and hearing are essential to perform daily tasks effectively.
