About the Role
This is a full-time temporary Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) position specifically designed to support Avera's enterprise EMR transition to EPIC. The project is anticipated to last approximately 18 months, with the goal for successful candidates to transition into a full-time regular MLS position with McKennan upon project completion.
In this role, you will be a key partner in the laboratory's evolution, ensuring that the transition to a new system maintains safe, compliant, and efficient operations. You will work closely with laboratory leadership, informatics partners, and technical teams to validate workflows, test system functionality, and prepare for go-live. Your work will directly impact the accuracy of laboratory orders, results, and reference ranges, ensuring that patient care is supported by reliable data.
The day-to-day involves a blend of technical validation and process improvement. You will participate in system testing to ensure all workflows function accurately, develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to align with new processes, and lead education efforts to prepare staff for the changes. Following the go-live, you will assist in stabilization, focusing on workflow optimization, defect tracking, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Prior MLS work experience utilizing EPIC is highly desired for this specific project. While the role is temporary, it offers a unique opportunity to be part of a major organizational transformation with a clear path to permanent employment.

Requirements
- verifiedBachelor's degree in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related chemical/physical/biological science
- verifiedMLS - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 Year or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1 Year
- verifiedPrior MLS work experience utilizing EPIC highly desired
