You will join the UPC General Specialty Clinics within the Clinical Nursing Support department. This team is dedicated to delivering comprehensive care across the full spectrum of patient ages, from neonates to geriatric populations, within a Patient Centered Medical Home (or Specialty Practice) framework.
As a Medical Assistant, you will serve as a vital bridge between patients and providers, managing both front-office clerical duties and essential clinical support. Your day will involve collecting patient data, obtaining medical histories, and coordinating appointments while ensuring a sanitary and safe work environment.
In the clinical setting, you will assist providers with treatment procedures, including setting up sterile fields and chaperoning. You will perform routine non-invasive tasks such as vital signs, saturation checks, and urine dipsticks, as well as invasive procedures like phlebotomy, ear irrigation, catheterization, and EKGs. You will also administer medications according to strict protocols and manage patient intakes and discharges.
Beyond clinical duties, you will handle cashiering responsibilities, maintain supply levels, and ensure accurate data entry. A key part of your role is championing patient safety by proactively identifying risks, reporting errors, and encouraging patients to actively participate in their own care.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent and be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or have two years of MA experience documented on a DD Form 214. Completion of the UNMH MA Safe Med Admin Course is required within 90 days of hire, and CPR for Healthcare Providers or Professional Rescuers certification is needed within 30 days.
While no minimum experience is required, bilingual capabilities in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo are highly valued. The position is a 0.05 FTE PRN role with a Days shift, though rotation may be required. Compensation includes shift differentials for weekday nights (17%), weekend nights (26%), and weekend days (15%).
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
