As a Mechanical Engineer III, you will lead or work within multi-discipline teams to prototype and pilot equipment design for optical fiber manufacturing processes and products. Your mission is to design, develop, improve, and industrialize optical fiber manufacturing platforms, enabling new products with advanced attributes and step-change reductions in manufacturing costs.
You will translate experimental solutions into engineering requirements, then further into process and equipment designs that deliver specific performance criteria. Working as a member of a technology development team, you will focus on improving manufacturing yields, process rates, machine utilization, product quality, environmental compliance, raw material yield, and energy usage. This role involves identifying concepts for manufacturing equipment, designing and building selected concepts, and utilizing risk management tools to ensure on-time delivery. You will also design and execute equipment validation tests in a manufacturing plant, analyzing data to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
This is an onsite-only position in Wilmington, NC, with a duration of 12 months. W2 candidates are eligible; third-party or C2C candidates will not be considered.

Knowledge of optical fiber properties, applications, and manufacturing. Experience with data processing software (e.g., Jump, Python, PowerBI) and MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Modeling simulation software (e.g., Aspen, Matlab, Fluent). Proficient in AutoDesk Inventor 3-D CAD. M.S. degree in a similar discipline. Desired knowledge/experience with optical fiber process development or manufacturing.
