We are seeking two Mechanical Designers to join our team in supporting the development of complex, precision scientific instruments. This role is pivotal in translating conceptual inputs from engineers and project scientists into functional, production-ready mechanical designs. You will work at the forefront of state-of-the-art science, designing unique and experimental instruments that extend current capabilities.
In this position, you will serve as a bridge between high-level concepts and detailed engineering execution. Your day-to-day involves creating original layouts, performing critical computations, and generating comprehensive engineering documentation for mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical assemblies. You will interpret rough sketches, design studies, and verbal descriptions to develop new designs or adapt existing ones, ensuring they meet rigorous requirements for structural integrity, thermal performance, and contamination control.
Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with optical engineers, physicists, machinists, and project managers to ensure that performance, cost, and schedule objectives are met. Your work will directly influence the fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing phases of our projects, requiring a commitment to precision and documentation integrity throughout the entire product lifecycle.
