About the Team

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) is the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization globally. Representing over 80,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, ALPA is a member-driven, staff-supported union dedicated to advancing aviation safety and protecting pilot interests. The Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) Department serves as a critical hub where subject matter experts and administrative professionals collaborate to shape industry-wide safety policies and strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleDirect, monitor, and coordinate the effective utilization of the Engineering and Air Safety team
  • check_circleDevelop and determine Association-wide air safety strategies for advancing ALPA policies
  • check_circleAssign work projects and tasks to team members while providing operational direction
  • check_circleAssist the Director and Assistant Director in the preparation of the department budget
  • check_circleCoordinate activities with other ALPA departments including Government Affairs, Communications, Legal, and Representation
  • check_circleAdminister department functions to promote responses to government agencies on technical and safety matters
  • check_circleIdentify potential actions to advance the Association's strategic plan and instigate new safety policies
  • check_circlePrepare team member evaluations with clearly defined attainable and measurable goals

Requirements

  • verifiedBachelor's degree in Aviation, Engineering, or related field (master's preferred)
  • verifiedPrivate pilot with instrument rating or equivalent aeronautical experience
  • verified10 years of experience in aviation safety and/or airline flight operations
  • verifiedLeadership experience in large or medium-sized organizations
  • verifiedStrong technical writing and public speaking skills
  • verifiedProficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint

Nice to Have

Master's degree; Previous experience working with ALPA; Knowledge of FAA and inter-governmental process functions; Solid presentation skills.
