As a Maintenance Worker I - Streets, you will be the backbone of our community's infrastructure. You will perform skilled and semi-skilled work focused on the maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of town streets, sidewalks, signage, and related infrastructure. Your day-to-day involves operating equipment, conducting preventative maintenance, and ensuring safe and accessible roadways for everyone.
You will be part of a team that handles everything from routine cleaning and pothole patching to complex stormwater system maintenance. Whether you are trimming vegetation to maintain visibility, clearing debris from storm drains, or operating heavy machinery like dump trucks and loaders, your work directly impacts the safety and beauty of Fort Myers Beach. You may also be assigned general maintenance tasks beyond streets as directed, supporting broader Public Works activities.
This position is classified as essential. During an emergency situation, such as a hurricane or severe storm, you will be required to report and carry out duties as directed for the duration of the event. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may involve working around the clock for several days on short notice to clear debris, ensure road clearance, and restore safety to the community.
