The City of Arlington is seeking a dedicated Public Works Maintenance Specialist to support critical infrastructure initiatives. This position is vital for ensuring the safety and functionality of our community's streets, drainage systems, and traffic operations. You will be responsible for a wide range of maintenance activities, including street repairs, traffic control, and stormwater management, directly impacting the daily lives of Arlington residents.
Your work will take you outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a variety of heavy machinery such as tandem dump trucks, asphalt rollers, and concrete grinders to repair sidewalks, curbs, and asphalt surfaces. You will also perform essential tasks like installing and maintaining streetlights, applying thermoplastic markings, and clearing debris from creeks and channels. A significant portion of your day will involve serving as a flag-person to safely divert traffic around construction sites, requiring strict adherence to TxDOT, TxMUTCD, and TEEX safety guidelines.
Beyond equipment operation, you will maintain the integrity of your tools and vehicles through regular inspections, minor repairs, and fluid services. The role demands clear communication with both the public and city staff, as well as the ability to interpret complex plans, specifications, and maps to execute work according to established procedures.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully complete a comprehensive employment screening process. This includes a criminal background check, physical examination, human performance evaluation, drug and alcohol screening, and a motor vehicle review.
