Located at the Green Bank Observatory (GBO) in Green Bank, West Virginia, this Maintenance Specialist position is a key component of the Facilities Division. Working under general supervision, you will serve as a versatile "fix-it" specialist, utilizing problem-solving and technical skills to address a wide array of facility maintenance challenges. Your work will span grounds, roads, and building maintenance, ensuring the observatory's infrastructure supports its critical scientific mission.
The role is mission-driven and team-oriented, requiring you to work both indoors and outdoors. You will operate near moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment, occasionally working at heights above five feet. This position demands physical agility, including the ability to climb ladders while carrying tools, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds. You will be part of the Plant Maintenance or Engineering Services team, collaborating with others to keep the facility running smoothly and safely.
