This specific work unit manages Cheyenne Mountain State Park. We operate within the guidelines of Colorado State statutes, regulations, and Division of Parks and Wildlife policies to ensure the area benefits the visitors who utilize it annually. Our team provides a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities while ensuring safety and high-quality standards are met. We are responsible for maintaining and improving visitor facilities, park infrastructure, and natural resources.
This position is the operational backbone of Cheyenne Mountain State Park's maintenance and safety efforts. You will provide a safe and pleasant environment for recreational activities by cleaning, repairing, replacing, and operating the equipment, systems, grounds, facilities, and infrastructure used by park visitors and staff.
Your day-to-day life will be a blend of hands-on field work and strategic management. You will primarily inspect and maintain recreational resources outside of developed areas, including trails, forested areas, archery ranges, toilets, and fences. You will troubleshoot functions and ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal guidelines, such as OSHA and ADA standards.
Beyond physical maintenance, you will serve as a leader for temporary maintenance personnel and volunteers. You will be responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising these teams to accomplish work plan goals. You will also manage purchasing, work with budgets and contractors, and ensure all operations adhere to state fiscal guidelines. This role requires you to act as a liaison, communicating regularly with park management, utility companies, outside agencies, partners, and the general public.
To apply, please submit your application through the State of Colorado's official hiring portal. Ensure your application clearly demonstrates how your experience in construction, farming, ranching, resource management, landscaping, facility management, or related fields meets the minimum qualifications. Candidates selected for consideration will be contacted for further steps in the selection process. Please note that State of Colorado residency is required at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license is necessary for operating state vehicles.
