The Plant Maintenance Mechanic C serves as a critical guardian of operational continuity and safety at our San Antonio facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role is dedicated to the comprehensive upkeep of plant equipment, buildings, and grounds. The position goes beyond simple repairs; it involves implementing strategic programs designed to extend equipment life, maximize reliability, and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
In this capacity, you will manage the full lifecycle of maintenance activities, from initiating requisitions for supplies to supervising complex repairs. You will utilize our Preventive Maintenance System to schedule and track periodic maintenance, ensuring that machinery and facilities operate at peak efficiency. The role demands sound judgment to handle non-routine issues and emergencies without direct supervision, prioritizing work orders systematically to minimize operational interruptions.
This position is based at our facility in San Antonio, TX, operating on the 3rd shift (5 PM – 1 AM). The work environment is a dynamic recycling plant that exposes employees to various elements, including weather conditions, dirt, high noise levels, and odors. Safety is paramount; the role requires strict adherence to all safety policies and the use of necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) when dealing with potentially dangerous or toxic substances. The physical nature of the job involves significant activity, including lifting objects over 80 pounds, working on ladders or raised platforms, and standing for extended periods on concrete floors.

Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems (both AC and DC current). Ability to read and interpret engineering piping and instrument drawings, electrical diagrams, schematics, and electrical logic diagrams. Experience with conveyor belt repairs and replacement. Welding certification and/or welding experience. At least 5 years' experience in maintaining maintenance facilities, equipment, and tools. Ability to troubleshoot, identify problems, determine causes, and perform repairs. Working knowledge and experience with multiple hand tools and power tools. Ability to operate/drive a powered pallet jack, forklift, scissor lift, and truck. Knowledge of computers and CMMS programs. Good organizational and critical thinking skills.
