The Special Education Coordinator serves as a vital leader in planning, implementing, and evaluating Special Education programming across the school, ensuring full alignment with MaST Schools' mission. This role is designed to promote inclusive practices that deepen the understanding of Special Education laws, rules, and regulations for both students and families.
In this position, you will act as a bridge between administration, general education staff, and the Special Education department. You will support Special Education teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and guidance counselors in meeting the diverse needs of students from kindergarten through age 21. Your work ensures that the learning community receives appropriate strategies and support, integrating new research findings and best practices into ongoing programs.
Your day will involve collaborating with administrators and staff to provide strategic support to the learning community. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to serving as the Local Education Agency (LEA) for IEP meetings, ensuring all paperwork is processed correctly, required signatures are obtained, and parents fully understand the process and purpose of these meetings in accordance with the law.
You will also provide essential training and technical assistance to case managers, teachers, and related service providers. This includes guiding them on case management systems, writing effective goals, creating progress reports, and communicating with parents. Additionally, you will work with staff to develop professional development goals that enhance student access to the general curriculum and collaborate with outside agencies to support individual student needs.
Beyond core coordination duties, you will sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs and academic contests, attend professional conferences to maintain competence, and adhere to strict professional standards of conduct and confidentiality.
Candidates selected for this position will undergo required background checks and must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. The role is a twelve-month contract with terms and salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees. Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law, administrative code, and Board policy.
