Founded in 1876, The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY) is a youth development organization with the mission to empower boys and young men, ages 7 to 21, by providing effective programs and a supportive community. BCNY provides evidence-based programs to address the evolving social, emotional, health, creative, educational, and vocational needs of our members in meaningful, lasting ways. We strive to continually deepen and broaden our impact by cultivating positive qualities in our members.
As a Lead Literacy Teacher, you will lead a group of 8 to 12 elementary-aged members through a curriculum designed to foster early reading skills and a lifelong love of reading. Working alongside an assistant teacher, you will facilitate small-group, leveled Guided Reading sessions, as well as whole-group read-a-louds and reading comprehension activities. Your day will involve delivering engaging academic content, implementing classroom management techniques that balance fun and learning, and adapting curriculum to meet the unique interests of the boys.
To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter. The organization strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and to obtain a booster shot, though full vaccination is not a strict requirement for frontline employees.
