About the Role

The Chief of Staff serves as the operational and clinical anchor of the hospital, dedicated to managing the facility while ensuring the highest quality of veterinary care. This role is unique in its dual focus: approximately 70-80% of the time is spent practicing veterinary medicine, while the remaining 20-30% is dedicated to leadership, team development, and hospital management. The position advocates for pets and their quality of life, fostering long-term bonds between clients and their animals while educating both the team and the community on pet health.

Working in partnership with the Practice Manager, the Chief of Staff operates as a role model and champion of the Banfield brand. The goal is to create a safe, engaging, and efficient hospital environment that maximizes productivity and profitability without compromising the standard of care. This leader acts as a bridge between associates, clients, field leadership, and central support, ensuring seamless communication and a collaborative culture.

Our Culture and Mission

At Banfield Pet Hospital, we are guided by the Five Principles of Mars, Inc., which shape our daily operations and interactions:

  • Quality: The consumer is our boss; quality is our work, and value for money is our goal.
  • Responsibility: We demand total responsibility from ourselves and support the responsibility of others.
  • Mutuality: A mutual benefit is a shared benefit; a shared benefit will endure.
  • Efficiency: We use resources to the full, waste nothing, and do only what we can do best.
  • Freedom: We need freedom to shape our future; we need profit to remain free.

We strive to create a positive professional environment where associates are empowered to realize their full potential. The Chief of Staff is expected to live these principles, mentoring Associate Veterinarians and fostering a team that delivers outstanding medical care and client service.

Hiring Process and Application

For Current Associates: If you are a current associate, you must apply through our internal career site. Please log into Workday and click on the Jobs Hub app or search for Browse Jobs.

For External Candidates: Candidates will be evaluated based on their clinical expertise, leadership capabilities, and alignment with our core values. The role requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree, a valid veterinary license, and a minimum of two years of clinical experience, along with 1-3 years of coaching experience.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Banfield Pet Hospital is an equal opportunity employer. We strongly support and value the uniqueness of all individuals and promote a work environment where diversity is embraced.
