The Lead Custodian serves as the operational backbone of Norwalk High School, ensuring a sanitary, safe, and functional environment for students, staff, and the public. Reporting directly to the Buildings & Grounds Director, this position goes beyond routine cleaning to oversee daily custodial operations, manage a team of custodians, and act as the primary point of contact for facility safety and maintenance needs.
In this role, you will lead by example while guiding assigned custodians in their daily tasks. Your day involves inspecting school facilities to identify necessary repairs, coordinating with school principals to develop work orders, and managing inventory for cleaning supplies. You will also serve as a critical safety resource, instructing staff on emergency procedures such as system failures and utility shut-offs, and responding immediately to operational concerns like alarms or facility damage.
As a leader within the district, you will collaborate with the Buildings & Grounds secretary to manage work schedules and substitutes, assist in performance reviews, and help solicit vendor proposals for equipment and supplies. This position requires a balance of independent decision-making and collaborative teamwork to maintain the school's readiness for learning and community events.
