The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences (LCS) at Michigan State University is a vibrant community of 6 ACVS, 3 ACVIM, and 2 ACT faculty, supported by a full complement of board-certified specialists in radiology, anesthesia, ophthalmology, and cardiology. Our hospital caseload is approximately 75% equine, serving horses, cattle, small ruminants, camelids, and pet pigs. We operate state-of-the-art facilities including the Matilda Wilson Pegasus Critical Care and Isolation Facility, the McPhail Equine Performance Center, and advanced imaging suites featuring CT, MRI, and nuclear scintigraphy.
Our faculty are innovative researchers and dedicated teachers who work closely with DVM students, interns, residents, and graduate scholars. Research excellence is fostered through interdisciplinary cores focusing on preharvest food safety, inflammation, gastrointestinal diseases, and equine sports medicine. The department is supported by a robust mentorship program and access to university-wide resources, including two human medical schools and the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering.
We invite applications for a full-time faculty position in Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, available at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This role is pivotal to our mission of advancing teaching, clinical service, research, and outreach. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of ACVECC Diplomates to lead after-hours emergency and critical care services, ensuring high-quality care for Michigan's large animal owners and referring veterinarians.
The position is defined by a primary commitment to after-hours service (nights and weekends) within the Veterinary Medical Center, where you will supervise residents and veterinary students. The remainder of your appointment will be distributed between didactic teaching, research, and outreach, tailored to your expertise. You will play a key role in training the next generation of veterinarians, delivering instruction to DVM students, residents, and ACVECC fellows, while developing strong relationships with the referring community.
We offer a collaborative environment where faculty and students work together to diagnose and treat disease in some of the most advanced facilities in the world. Whether you are drawn to the intensity of emergency medicine, the depth of clinical research, or the reward of student mentorship, this role offers the flexibility to shape your career within the Health Programs or Tenure Track systems.
