About the Department

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) promotes and protects the health of Arizona's children and adults. Our mission is to promote, protect, and improve the health and wellness of individuals and communities across the state. We strive to set the standard for personal and community health through direct care, science, public policy, and leadership.

ADHS is committed to fostering an inclusive work environment that supports a diverse, multi-cultural workforce reflecting the community we serve. We offer flexible work arrangements, including alternative schedules and hybrid options, to accommodate various career stages and life needs.

About the Role

As a Laboratory Compliance Officer 2, you will serve as a critical guardian of public health within the Laboratory Licensure and Certification Office. Your work ensures that laboratories in Arizona meet the minimum standards of proficiency, methodology, quality assurance, and safety required by federal and state regulations.

In this role, you will conduct initial and periodic inspections of laboratories and facilities to verify compliance with the Federal Code of Regulations and Arizona Statutes. You will review quality systems by tracking documents, monitoring corrective actions, and analyzing data to ensure operational integrity. When complaints arise or unlicensed laboratories are identified, you will lead investigations into laboratory operations. This position requires a blend of independent analysis and collaborative engagement, as you will attend staff meetings, advisory committees, and industry organizations to stay current on best practices and regulatory changes.

The role involves significant travel to alternate locations and potentially out-of-state to conduct inspections and attend meetings, often requiring the use of a state, personal, or rented vehicle.

Hiring Process & Application

To apply, candidates must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to travel. Selected candidates will be subject to the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify). Additionally, state, federal, or national certification in the appropriate field must be obtained within one year of employment.

For individuals with disabilities requiring reasonable accommodations, such as a sign language interpreter or alternative formats, please contact nicole.zawacki@azdhs.gov as early as possible to allow sufficient time for arrangement.

Equal Opportunity

The State of Arizona is an Equal Opportunity/Reasonable Accommodation Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background and are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where all individuals can perform to their fullest potential free from discrimination.
