The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is dedicated to the mission of "The Right Service, the Right Way, at the Right Time." We honor the service of our nation's veterans and their families, actively supporting the hiring of service members and military spouses. Our agency operates with a commitment to safety, dignity, and respect for all individuals within the criminal justice system.
This position serves as a highly responsible role within the Marion Regional Detention Center. As a Juvenile Justice Detention Officer II, you will be a positive role model for staff, youth, and the community, ensuring a safe and secure environment for everyone. Your work is critical in maintaining a "zero tolerance" atmosphere regarding escapes, abuse, sexual harassment, and inappropriate conduct.
In this role, you will supervise youth in all activities, utilizing appropriate levels of verbal or physical intervention (Protective Action Response) only when necessary to maintain control. You will assist in the operation of the secure detention center, ensuring the safe custody of assigned youth while safeguarding their constitutional rights, with special attention to legal, medical, and mental health needs. The role involves managing admissions, releases, transportation, and facility security, including contraband inspections and emergency response using CPR, AED, and First Aid techniques.
You will also act as a mentor and trainer for new employees, coach staff on facility policies, and assume the acting supervisor's role when necessary. A key part of your day involves maintaining accurate records, writing detailed reports on incidents and youth movements, and preparing youth for court appearances and medical appointments.
This is a pool announcement for multiple positions; previous candidates need not re-apply.
