The Department of Juvenile Justice is dedicated to providing "The Right Service, the Right Way, at the Right Time." We honor our nation's veterans and their families, actively supporting the hiring of service members and military spouses. Our mission is to uphold the highest standards of safety, dignity, and respect for all youth in our care while maintaining a secure environment for staff and the community.
This highly responsible supervisory position serves as a critical leader within the Alachua Regional Juvenile Detention Center. As a supervisor, you will be expected to demonstrate positive leadership, acting as a role model for staff, youth, and the community. Your primary focus is ensuring a safe and secure environment with a "zero tolerance" policy for escapes, abuse, harassment, or inappropriate conduct.
In this role, you will assist in the daily operation of the detention center, ensuring the safe custody of assigned youth while safeguarding their constitutional rights, particularly regarding legal, medical, and mental health needs. You will supervise youth activities, utilizing appropriate verbal directives and Protective Action Response (PAR) techniques to maintain control. Additionally, you will oversee medication dispensing, facility inspections for contraband, and the preparation of detailed reports regarding incidents and youth movements.
You will also serve as the acting supervisor in the absence of the primary leader, managing admissions, releases, and transportation of youth to medical, judicial, and social service facilities. Success in this position requires the ability to analyze information through the Juvenile Justice Information System, maintain strict counts, and respond to emergencies using CPR, AED, and First Aid protocols.
All prospective candidates are subject to comprehensive background checks, including sex offender registries, state, local, and national criminal history checks, and pre-employment drug screening. Candidates not currently employed as direct care workers within the state system will be required to pass the Ergometric's IMPACT Assessment and Training Test to demonstrate suitability for working with juvenile justice-involved youth.
Successful candidates must be certified in accordance with the State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice direct care training policy or obtain such certification within 180 days of employment. For those requiring a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act, please notify the agency hiring authority or the People First Service Center (1-866-663-4735) in advance.
