About the Role
This entry-level position is designed for promising new attorneys or those new to the Social Security Disability practice area. It serves as a pathway to future opportunities within the firm. Being part of the Heard & Smith team is more than a job; each day provides opportunities to change someone's life.
As a Junior Associate Attorney, you will split your time across two major assignments. Approximately half to two-thirds of your time will be dedicated to representing clients in hearings before Social Security Administrative Law Judges. The remainder of your time will be spent on other critical tasks, including answering client questions, reviewing and developing pre-hearing and hearing-level cases, conducting legal research, and drafting pre-hearing brief memorandums and appeals council briefs. You will have regular client contact via telephone, in person, mail, and email.

The position requires travel to in-person hearings in other cities and states, which may take up to 70% of your time.
Remote Work Requirements
For attorneys working from home, the firm provides a laptop computer, additional monitor, printer, and headphones, along with remote internet Wi-Fi access for business travel and a monthly cell phone stipend. Candidates must have a fast internet connection (20MB+), a wired Ethernet cable connection, a landline or strong cell signal, and a quiet home office with no distractions during business hours.
