This position serves as a highly specialized subject matter expert responsible for managing complex, multi-billion dollar litigation involving the Air Force's environmental cleanup program. The role addresses legally and technically intricate matters with high mission impact, spanning federal, state, and local environmental statutes, rules, regulations, and policies.
As the primary representative for the Air Force, the incumbent will handle environmental, occupational safety and health, property, and natural and cultural resources litigation and administrative proceedings in both state and federal courts. Beyond individual case management, the attorney is expected to continuously deepen their expertise and actively share this knowledge with other Air Force attorneys and the Department of Defense as a whole.
Candidates selected for this position must provide a writing sample prior to receiving an offer. This sample will demonstrate legal analytical skills relevant to the duties of the role.
Successful candidates will be subject to a probationary period of one year or a trial period of two years, depending on the type of position (competitive or excepted). Employment will be terminated upon completion of this period unless written certification is received stating that continued employment advances the public interest.
