IT Architect - Software

About the Role

This position serves as a hybrid Technical Architect and Lead Developer, bridging the gap between high-level platform strategy and hands-on execution. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing critical functionality for the ServiceNow platform, specifically within the domains of ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, SPM, and CMDB. The role exists to ensure the platform remains scalable, secure, and aligned with complex business and ITIL requirements while driving continuous improvement across the enterprise.

In this capacity, you will spend approximately 25% of your time defining the architectural vision, establishing technical guardrails, and serving as the final escalation point for complex decisions. The remaining 75% involves leading development efforts, performing hands-on JavaScript coding, and mentoring other developers. You will translate business needs into robust solution designs, oversee the full software development lifecycle, and ensure that all custom applications and integrations meet rigorous performance and security standards.

The Team and Mission

You will be working within a mission-critical environment supporting the Department of Education/Federal Student Aid. The team is responsible for maintaining the integrity and availability of essential student aid systems. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of federal compliance, data security, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes while delivering innovative technical solutions.

Hiring and Interview Process

Candidates selected for this role must be U.S. citizens residing in the United States. The hiring process includes a thorough background check and requires the successful completion of a criminal background check. Final suitability is determined by the Department of Education/Federal Student Aid.

Selected candidates must obtain and maintain a PIV-I (Personal Identity Verification) card, which requires in-person pickup at a designated location. Maximus will cover travel expenses for this requirement. Additionally, candidates must not be delinquent or in default on any federal student loans. Employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a favorable security clearance.
