American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a nonprofit Conservation Corps partnering with the National Park Service to engage young adults in conservation and public service. This opportunity places members at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, GA, a site rich in both cultural history and natural beauty.
Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park encompasses 1,860 acres of diverse ecosystems, including upland fields, forests, and wetlands along Walnut Creek and the Ocmulgee River. The park represents more than 12,000 years of continuous human habitation and serves as the ancestral homeland for many Muskogean-speaking peoples. It is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including several endangered and threatened species.
We are seeking two Interpretation Members to contribute to public interpretation projects alongside park staff. This role is designed to facilitate professional development, offering exposure to land management agencies and opportunities to network with professionals in various conservation fields.
The primary focus of this position is providing formal and informal public interpretation while developing content for the park's social media and website to enhance visitor understanding of resource significance. A key objective is to identify ways non-Tribal citizens can respectfully interpret a living culture that is not their own. The goal is to provide memorable, meaningful learning experiences, foster a personal stewardship ethic, broaden public support for preserving park resources, and improve park operations through the integration of traditional Indigenous knowledge.
This placement offers a unique chance to gain experience in different conservation fields and shadow various work groups. Members will work collaboratively with NPS staff to craft inclusive stories that honor Indigenous history and cultural lifeways.
To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter demonstrating your interest and experience, and contact information for three professional or academic references via ACE's online application page. Early consideration is given to applications as they are received; however, the position may close at any time.
If you have questions regarding the position, please contact ACE EPIC Member Manager, Maya Opara-Nadi. We encourage applicants who meet at least 70 percent of the qualifications to apply.
Employment or service with ACE is based upon ability, qualifications, attitude, and job-related factors. Every qualified employee, member, or applicant has the same opportunity for recruitment, hire, training, transfer, promotion, compensation, demotion, termination, benefits, employee activities, and general treatment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, creed, national origin, pregnancy, ancestry, citizenship status, genetic information, veteran or military status, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, medical condition, marital or parental status, political affiliation, ethnicity, hair texture or style, arrest record, caste, hereditary status, endogamy, or any other classification protected by applicable local, state, or federal law.
