Reporting directly to the Director of Library Services, the Instructional Services Reference Librarian serves as the strategic leader for the Reference Department. This role is designed to cultivate a library environment that actively supports productive student learning by bridging the gap between complex information resources and user needs.
The position functions as a dual force in instruction and management. You will lead the department's instructional program, from planning and marketing to evaluating the impact of workshops and classes on student success. Simultaneously, you will manage the day-to-day operations of the reference desk and research computers, ensuring high-quality, responsive service for individuals and groups. This is a collaborative role where you will work collegially with faculty to integrate library resources into course assignments and serve as a liaison to specific schools within the college.
This position requires a philosophy deeply aligned with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Shaw University. We are committed to innovation in library services and resource access, seeking a leader who demonstrates a strong commitment to achieving goals and pursuing excellence. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, balancing independent project management with the ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.
Candidates must possess a graduate degree in Library and Information Science and demonstrate a willingness to participate in initiatives that innovate library services. We value strong oral and written presentation skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining fluency in English.
