We are seeking an Inside Machinist to provide critical support at the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) Product Family in San Diego, CA. This role is vital to maintaining the Navy's readiness by ensuring the precision and integrity of shipboard components.
In this position, you will operate as a Journeyman-level professional, exercising independent judgment to machine, fabricate, and refurbish newly designed and replacement shipboard components. Your day-to-day work involves utilizing templates and technical documentation, including ships' drawings, to remove, repair, manufacture, modify, and test various components. You will determine the most effective machine tools and establish proper sequences of operations, working with materials ranging from stainless steel and Monel to plastics and Teflon. The role requires a high degree of precision, holding tolerances to one ten-thousandth of an inch using advanced measuring instruments and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
Beyond traditional machining, you will provide subject matter expertise in 3D printing and additive manufacturing, including equipment maintenance and guidance on advancements in technology. You will also serve as a Tool Room Attendant, managing the issuance, receipt, and organization of tools and supplies while maintaining accurate inventory logs. This role demands the ability to work in diverse environments, including aboard ships, in shipyards, and in confined spaces, often under industrial conditions involving noise, heat, and humidity.
Start dates are contingent upon the approval of base access, which is required for this position and continued employment. Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a CAC ID Base access and DoD Security Clearance. Upon hiring, you will be required to complete the OHSA 10 course, low-speed vehicle training, and the PQS 301 Craftsman qualification within ninety days. A forklift license may be required depending on shop needs.
