The Department of Pathology is seeking a Hospital Mortician to assist with matters pertaining to decedent affairs. This role serves as a compassionate bridge between the hospital and grieving families, ensuring the transition of the deceased is handled with dignity and efficiency. The position involves communicating with families following a patient's death, assisting with plans for the removal of the deceased, and coordinating arrangements for autopsies under the supervision of a pathologist.
Day-to-day responsibilities include locating and notifying the nearest legal relatives, completing necessary paperwork, and managing the storage, retrieval, and disposition of autopsy specimens. The role also contributes to the department's educational mission by maintaining a teaching tissue bank. Additionally, the mortician is responsible for the routine maintenance of laboratory instruments and the ordering of necessary supplies.
This is a full-time position (100% time) operating Monday through Friday with rotating weekends. Shifts rotate between 07:30–16:00, 08:30–17:00, and 11:30–20:00.
