As a Histotech Assistant working in the Histology Laboratory, you will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients by performing a volume and variety of Histopathology technical procedures under direct supervision. Your day-to-day work involves embedding tissue blocks, performing microtomy, and managing the full lifecycle of patient samples from retrieval and verification to processing, staining, and case assembly.
You will serve as a subject matter expert for the Lab Information System, troubleshoot equipment and reagent issues, and handle the disposal of hazardous chemicals. This role is designed to support the laboratory's critical mission while providing a foundation for professional growth. Individuals hired into this position are required to complete two years before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic. This is a limited tenure position for a maximum of three years, with the opportunity to reduce to 0.5 full-time equivalency if accepted into the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences (MCSHS) Histology Technician Program.
