This position serves as a critical science resource within AbbVie, dedicated to assessing the safety of experimental compounds and devices. The role focuses on evaluating the effects of these substances on the body fluids and tissues of experimental animals, acting as a bridge between clinical and anatomic pathology for various departments.
You will be responsible for designing, directing, and conducting study protocols that encompass the collection and evaluation of gross, microscopic, ultra-structural, and clinical pathology data. A key part of your day involves interpreting complex data from necropsy, histopathology, and electron microscopy to generate comprehensive reports. These reports correlate findings to determine potential toxicity, serving as a vital component of the broader Toxicology report.
Beyond individual study execution, you will function as an early safety representative on drug discovery teams. This involves predicting possible toxicities, developing safety screens to detect issues, and preparing mitigation strategies to prioritize the safest compounds for progression to development. You will partner with regulatory toxicologists and other functions to address specific toxicology issues and select compounds for advancement, ensuring the accuracy of interpretations is maintained for product clearance by governmental agencies.
