As a Histotech Assistant in the Histology Laboratory, you will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients by performing a volume and variety of Histopathology technical procedures. Working under direct supervision, you will handle tasks ranging from embedding tissue blocks and performing microtomy to managing specimen tracking, accessioning, and photography. This role serves as a critical foundation for laboratory operations, requiring you to maintain equipment, prepare reagents, troubleshoot issues, and act as a subject matter expert for the Lab Information System.
This position is designed as a limited tenure role for a maximum of 3 years, offering a unique pathway for professional growth. Individuals hired into this position are required to complete 2 years before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic. If accepted into the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences (MCSHS) Histology Technician Program, you may be eligible to reduce to 0.5 full-time equivalency (FTE) while working towards program prerequisites.
