About the Role
This position serves as a dual-role opportunity, combining the responsibilities of a Head Coach and a Classroom Teacher within the Sioux Falls School District. As a Head Coach, you will assume responsibility for the entire athletic program, coaching the varsity squad, supervising assistant coaches, and guiding middle school programs that feed into the high school. You will work closely with the Athletic Director and Activities Principal to formulate schedules, manage budgets, and organize facilities.
Simultaneously, as a Classroom Teacher, you will plan and prepare meaningful instructional tasks aligned with district curriculum. You will create a positive learning environment, adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs, and maintain high expectations for all learners. This role requires a unique blend of athletic leadership and educational expertise to support students holistically.
Hiring Process & Application Instructions
Interested candidates must hold a valid South Dakota teaching certificate with endorsements in the assigned content area. If you are interested in becoming a contract teacher without a traditional teaching degree, the South Dakota Department of Education offers an Alternative Certification program. Candidates must obtain their Alternative Preliminary Certificate before applying.

- Certification: Ensure you have a valid SD teaching certificate or obtain an Alternative Preliminary Certificate via the SD Educator Portal.
- Training: Complete the required Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training (at least one hour every five years) prior to starting employment. View approved trainings at the South Dakota Department of Education website.
- Apply: Submit your application through the district portal. Current district employees must also complete an application.
- Background Check: A post-offer criminal background check is required.
