Head Night Custodian

About the Role

The Head Night Custodian serves as a vital guardian of the Iowa City Community School District's facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and conducive environment for student learning and community gatherings. This role is designed to maintain the assigned building, its contents, and immediate grounds during evening hours, directly supporting the district's mission to maximize educational opportunities.

As a leader on the night shift, you will direct other custodial staff to provide efficient, safe, and timely services. Your work ensures that the facility is properly maintained, from routine cleaning and snow removal to minor equipment repairs and perimeter safety checks. By managing daily, weekly, and annual services, you help create a secure atmosphere where students, staff, and the public can thrive.

Team Context

This position operates under the co-supervision of the Director of Facilities Management, the Custodial Manager, and the Building Administrator, while also receiving guidance from the Head Day Custodian. You will work closely with building staff to assist with outside deliveries, indoor and outdoor events, and the evaluation and training of new employees. Your efforts are integral to the overall efficiency of the school system and the preservation of school property.

Application Instructions

Interested candidates should review the full qualifications, which include a minimum of one year of experience in custodial services or a similar industry, along with the ability to direct operations and personnel. The role requires physical stamina for lifting up to 70 lbs., climbing, and working in various weather conditions, as well as knowledge of mechanical systems and housekeeping practices.
