The Supported Community Living Specialist (SCLS) serves as a vital link between individuals with disabilities and their community, fostering independence through direct support and skill development. Based in Red Oak, IA, this full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The role is designed for a para-professional who is dedicated to creating a supportive, therapeutic atmosphere where residents can thrive.
In this position, you will work directly under the supervision of a Team Leader and the Director of Residential Services. Your primary mission is to assist individuals in developing the skills necessary for daily living, from managing personal health and nutrition to navigating community resources. You will play a key role in crafting and executing Individualized Intervention Plans and Person-Centered Plans, ensuring that every resident's unique needs, interests, and choices are respected and met.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve a blend of direct care, mentorship, and advocacy. You will guide residents through activities such as meal preparation, housekeeping, and personal hygiene, while also teaching essential life skills like budgeting and property management. A significant portion of your time will be spent facilitating community integration, ensuring each individual participates in at least one community activity weekly. You will also provide transportation to medical appointments, church, and other essential services, acting as a reliable partner in their journey toward self-sufficiency.
