The Grounds Keeper is responsible for maintaining the District's outdoor spaces in a state of operating excellence. This role ensures that the grounds support the educational program without interruption and enhance the District's public image. The position requires a dedicated professional who can work effectively in an outdoor environment to cultivate, maintain, and repair landscaping features.
In this role, you will manage the full lifecycle of the District's grounds. Your day will involve preparing soil for seeding or transplanting, planting trees, shrubs, and bulbs to ensure an attractive appearance, and pruning vegetation to promote healthy growth and maintain clear sightlines. You will also inspect plants for pests and diseases, manage flood and drip irrigation systems, and handle the collection and disposal of landscape refuse.
A significant portion of the work involves operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, including gators, front-end loaders, dump trucks, turf mowers, and power tools like chain saws and rototillers. You will be expected to perform repairs on hand and power equipment, read safety data sheets, and apply safety precautions at all times. The role requires physical stamina to lift heavy materials, bend for extended periods, and work outdoors for the entire shift.
As a member of the grounds team, you will report to the Lead Grounds Keeper and contribute to a collaborative environment. Success in this position depends on the ability to relate positively to students, staff, and the public. You will be evaluated on your performance by your supervisor and are expected to solve practical problems while following written and verbal instructions.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, four years of landscaping experience, and a valid Arizona driver's license with a safe driving record.
