About the Port of Seattle

Every role at the Port of Seattle is vital to our thriving community. As a leader in moving people and cargo across the country and around the world, we manage facilities ranging from a half-acre park to one of the largest airports and container terminals on the West Coast. Our mission is to maximize public assets in our portfolio with an eye toward best uses and environmental sustainability.

Our vision is to create a Port that mirrors the diversity of our communities, instills principles of equity into its culture, and ensures a fair and intentional distribution of opportunities to expand economic development and quality of life for all in our region. We are actively working to create a culture where all employees succeed and reach their fullest potential.

The Port of Seattle is unable to sponsor employment visas at this time.

About the Role

As a Geographic Information System (GIS) Software Engineer, you will design and develop GIS applications and databases that integrate with the Port of Seattle's Enterprise GIS infrastructure. This role exists to bridge the gap between complex business requirements and technical execution, ensuring that our digital tools effectively support our mission of advancing trade, travel, and commerce.

In this position, you will partner with business stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle to deliver solutions that meet their needs. You will provide technical leadership and guidance to GIS Analysts and consultants, ensuring specific technical roles are assigned to maximize team contribution and efficiency. Your work will involve developing data-sharing capabilities, maintaining system continuity, and providing production system support using ICT standards.

You will be a key driver in evolving our GIS Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational processes. A critical part of your day will involve identifying and mitigating cybersecurity risks throughout the development process and providing training to Port staff to ensure the successful adoption of delivered systems.

Hiring Process & Application

Applications will be reviewed regularly, and interviews may be conducted prior to the application close date. Salary offers will be made within the posted range, with placement determined based on your similar work experience. The Port considers work experience to be similar if the scope and level of responsibility of your prior positions match the job being offered.

Work Environment & Requirements

This position operates in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management's discretion, with a normal work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week), though you may be required to work during emergencies. Washington State residency is required; employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and maintain it throughout their tenure. If teleworking, all work must be performed within Washington State.

As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
