This position serves as a vital link in the freight logistics chain, responsible for transporting cargo across the dock area to and from trailers. The role ensures that freight is loaded, secured, and documented accurately to maintain the integrity of the supply chain. You will operate in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment where attention to detail and physical agility are essential for daily success.
Your shift begins in a dynamic dock environment where you will handle freight using a variety of motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. A significant portion of your day involves verifying that documentation matches the physical freight, including checking types, weights, and hazardous material classifications. You will be responsible for securing freight inside trailers using appropriate tools like straps and ropes, and repairing or recouping damaged goods when necessary.
Beyond physical handling, you will interact with customers to assist with freight and documentation needs. If required, you will also perform hostling duties to move equipment within the yard. The role demands the ability to work independently or as part of a team, navigating a setting exposed to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. While prior experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operations is preferred, the primary focus is on the ability to perform basic math, communicate effectively, and meet the physical demands of the job, such as lifting dock plates and opening trailer doors.
