In this role, you will lead and supervise a team of automotive mechanics performing both minor and major repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment. You will provide hands-on technical guidance, support diagnostic problem-solving, and ensure adherence to established safety standards. Your day may involve inspecting completed work for quality, coordinating repair activities, and personally conducting major engine overhauls for gasoline and diesel systems. You will troubleshoot electronic engine control systems using advanced scan tools, calibrate hydraulic control units for highway salt applications, and test drive heavy motorized equipment. Additionally, you will perform complex repairs on transmissions and electrical systems, operate welding equipment, manage inventory, and maintain detailed service records.
This position is based at INDOT's Vincennes Sub-District. To support your success, INDOT offers a generous Standard Hand Tool Reimbursement of up to $1,500 per year for full-time Mechanic positions to purchase, replace, and repair tools required for maintenance activities. Candidates without a current CDL will be given 90 days to obtain their license and endorsements, with CDL training provided onsite by certified INDOT staff.
