The Controller's Office Admin, within the Financial Services division, drives the financial integrity of the University. Our mission is to ensure the accurate presentation of the University's Annual Financial Report and maintain robust internal controls. We support university-wide decision-making by providing precise financial data and analysis that adheres to complex governmental standards.
As a Financial Reporting Accountant, you will serve as a critical partner in the University's financial operations. This role exists to bridge the gap between complex accounting standards and actionable administrative insights. You will be responsible for the accurate preparation of the Annual Financial Report, managing year-end accruals, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Auditing Principles (GAAP) and over 100 Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
Your day-to-day involves interpreting legal documents such as lease agreements and subscription-based arrangements to measure assets and liabilities accurately. You will manage the University's Chart of Accounts, test ERP system upgrades, and prepare ad hoc reports for diverse constituencies, including bond rating agencies and state agencies. Additionally, you will play a key role in the audit process, assisting external auditors and State Examiners with questions regarding financial activity and compliance with Alabama laws.
