About the Role
The Finance Director serves as the strategic leader for the City's Finance and Accounting Departments, overseeing all financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, receivables, cash management, and asset inventory. This role is critical for ensuring fiscal integrity and compliance with policies established by the City Manager, City Council, and state and federal regulations.
In this position, you will direct the activities of a team of six finance professionals while collaborating closely with the Budget, Debt and Grants, IT, and Human Resources departments. The Director acts as an internal consultant to City departments, guiding them on complex finance and accounting issues while maintaining the City's financial systems and reporting standards.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleOversee all financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, and cash management
- check_circlePrepare the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards
- check_circleMonitor city purchases and approve accounts payable invoices and 1099 forms
- check_circleDevelop and maintain computerized financial accounting systems and general ledger
- check_circleSupport the Budget, Debt and Grants Department in analyzing budget options and fund balances
- check_circleFunction as an internal consultant for city departments on finance and accounting issues
- check_circleSupervise six finance employees and manage hiring, firing, and promotion decisions
- check_circleDevelop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls for the department
- check_circlePrepare the departmental budget and monitor expenditures against adopted policies
Requirements
- verifiedMaster's degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field
- verified5 years of progressive supervisory/leadership experience
- verifiedCertified Public Accountant license
