As a Field Systems Engineer at bioMérieux, you will serve as the critical link between our advanced diagnostic technology and the clinicians, scientists, and lab leaders who rely on it. Your mission is to ensure the optimal performance of our diverse product portfolio by delivering best-in-class customer experiences directly at customer sites. This role is designed for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment, capable of working remotely without direct supervision while managing a complex schedule of daily visits and overnight travel.
You will partner directly with a wide range of stakeholders, from biomedical engineers to lab leadership, to troubleshoot, install, and maintain complex electro-mechanical and electronic systems. Beyond technical execution, you will build lasting trust with customers, identifying opportunities to enhance service agreements and drive revenue through preventive maintenance and equipment moves. The role demands flexibility, requiring you to adapt to rotational weekend and holiday coverage, manage a company fleet, and represent bioMérieux professionally at trade shows and customer sites.
Your workday is a blend of high-level technical problem-solving and strategic relationship management. Typically, you will spend the majority of your time traveling to customer locations to perform installations, upgrades, and repairs, ensuring instruments meet strict specifications. You will navigate a schedule that includes both planned maintenance and urgent, unscheduled support calls, often requiring overnight stays to cover wide territories or national needs.
In addition to field work, you will dedicate time to administrative excellence, maintaining accurate service work orders, managing spare parts inventory, and ensuring compliance with quality procedures. You will also participate in a rotational on-call schedule, providing critical support during weekends and holidays. Continuous learning is a core part of the role; you will attend initial product training in Durham, NC, or St. Louis, MO, and engage in ongoing professional development to master new technologies and laboratory operations.
Candidates selected for this role will undergo a comprehensive training period lasting 6-9 weeks at our Durham, NC, or St. Louis, MO offices to master our product portfolio before deploying to the field. Future training opportunities will be provided as needed to keep skills current.
