The Field Systems Engineer serves as the primary technical partner for bioMérieux customers across an assigned geographic territory and nationally. This role is designed for a self-starter who thrives in a remote environment without direct supervision, dedicated to delivering a best-in-class customer experience. You will optimize the performance of bioMérieux's diverse product portfolio by collaborating directly with clinicians, scientists, technicians, biomedical engineers, and lab leadership.
The position demands a high degree of autonomy and adaptability. While typical weekday travel involves daily customer visits with significant driving, the role also requires readiness for overnight travel on short notice, including weekend and holiday rotational coverage. You will act as a bridge between technical execution and customer relationship building, ensuring instruments meet specifications while identifying opportunities to support service agreements and revenue generation.
Your work is a dynamic blend of technical expertise and strategic partnership. A significant portion of your time is spent on the road, performing installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs using specialized electronic and computer tools. You will manage a complex schedule of scheduled and unscheduled visits, often traveling extensively (up to 90% of the time) to support customers within and outside your standard region.
Beyond the field, you will maintain rigorous documentation, manage a company fleet, and participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 instrument support. You will also represent bioMérieux professionally at trade shows and provide critical feedback to Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service teams to expand service capabilities. Success in this role requires the ability to troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical and biomedical systems while managing competing deadlines and customer expectations independently.
Candidates selected for this role will undergo a comprehensive training period. The first year includes 6–9 weeks of product training at bioMérieux offices in Durham, NC, or St. Louis, MO, with additional training sessions scheduled as needed. This foundational training ensures you are fully qualified to handle the technical demands of the role and the specific requirements of the on-call rotation.
bioMérieux is committed to fostering a culture of inclusiveness and ethical leadership. We value professionals who demonstrate emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels. We seek individuals who can maintain composure in high-pressure situations and who are dedicated to upholding the core ethical principles that define our organization.
bioMérieux is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or veteran status. We are dedicated to building a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
