The Field Systems Engineer serves as the primary technical partner for bioMérieux customers across an assigned geographic territory and nationally. This role is designed for a self-starter who thrives in a remote environment without direct supervision, delivering a best-in-class customer experience while managing complex service needs. You will partner directly with clinicians, scientists, technicians, and lab leadership to optimize the performance of bioMérieux's diverse product portfolio.
The position demands a high degree of autonomy and adaptability. While typical weekdays involve daily customer visits with significant driving, the role also requires readiness for overnight travel on short notice, including weekend and holiday rotational coverage. You will act as a bridge between technical execution and relationship building, ensuring instruments meet specifications while fostering trust and identifying opportunities for service agreements.
Your work is a dynamic blend of technical precision and strategic collaboration. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to customer service and technical execution, where you will promptly respond to needs and perform installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs using advanced electronic and computer skills. Beyond the bench, you will build lasting relationships with customers, promoting service agreements and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive revenue through preventive maintenance and equipment moves.
Administrative excellence is equally critical. You will manage your own schedule, ensuring timely completion of service work orders, QA checklists, and expense reports. You will also be responsible for maintaining the condition of your assigned fleet vehicle, spare parts inventory, and all company-issued equipment. As a representative of bioMérieux, you will provide feedback to Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service to help expand service capabilities and ensure compliance with company quality procedures.
Success in this role begins with comprehensive preparation. Within your first year, you will attend 6-9 weeks of intensive product training at our Durham, NC or St. Louis, MO offices. Ongoing training will occur as needed to keep you current with evolving technologies. We encourage continuous professional development to enhance both your technical and interpersonal skills, ensuring you remain agile in a fast-paced environment.
At bioMérieux, we foster a culture of inclusiveness and ethical integrity. We value team members who demonstrate emotional intelligence, maintain composure under pressure, and cooperate effectively at all levels. We are committed to providing a supportive environment where you can thrive, manage competing deadlines, and solve problems with confidence and creativity.
