Reporting into the Global Practice Lead, this role serves the Specialty Practice by driving strategies that ensure profitability, growth, and retention within assigned regions. You will be instrumental in implementing underwriting execution where specialization is critical and in creating, influencing, and engaging key distribution channels. This position requires effective collaboration with regional leadership teams to achieve Business Insurance objectives. Field Specialty MDs will have a dual reporting line into the Business Unit RVP and this role.
In partnership with local leadership, you will develop and execute strategic business plans, setting annual goals while remaining jointly accountable for regional profit and loss results. You will monitor field execution for your line or industry segment, adjusting strategies based on financial and operational results. Working in concert with BI Business Center leadership, you will ensure excellence in setting and achieving performance and underwriting standards.
You will maintain deep specialization and awareness of industry trends, attending specialized forums and boards. You will be jointly accountable for the results of the most complex, at-risk, or hard-to-close deals and will inform product strategy for your assigned line or industry segment. Additionally, you will participate in portfolio assessments and strategic direction reviews, providing assistance in obtaining corporate support for underwriting needs in assigned jurisdictions.
Talent management is a core component of this role. You will partner with the Business Unit RVP and HR on recruiting plans and staff development to attract and retain top talent, building bench strength for key positions. Your staff management will include coaching, training, and performance management in a supportive, team-oriented manner. You will also build and maintain valued internal business partnerships within Business Insurance, the Enterprise, and external constituencies.
Finally, you will engage key distribution agents and specialists directly on behalf of Travelers. You will collaborate with local leadership on Distribution and Agency Management to optimize production results, promoting a consultative marketing and sales culture.
