Join Atrium Health as a Family Medicine Physician - Research Faculty in Charlotte, NC, as part of Advocate Health, one of the largest nonprofit integrated health systems in the country. At Advocate Health, we are committed to being a "Best Place to Care"—a culture where physicians are empowered, heard, and equipped to do their best work. You will be part of a leading integrated system with a shared commitment to innovation, well-being, and the communities we serve.
The Department of Family Medicine, established in 1973, is nationally known for its leadership in Family Medicine, its Center for Primary Care Research, and its exceptional education of medical students, FM residents, and fellows. With the launch of the Charlotte campus of Wake Forest University School of Medicine in July 2025, faculty now play an integral role across all four years of medical education. This new campus, anchored in The Pearl Innovation District, is fully integrated with Atrium Health, providing students with direct access to a premier academic medical center and a technologically-rich, case-driven curriculum focused on reducing health disparities and community engagement.
This position is based at Elizabeth Family Medicine, a full-scope community clinic located in midtown Charlotte near Atrium Health Mercy. The clinic is part of a large integrated physician network, offering access to system-wide resources and multidisciplinary support.
We are seeking a full-time Family Medicine Physician committed to teaching the next generation of physicians, with a special interest in research. This role offers a unique opportunity to balance clinical practice, education, and scholarly inquiry within a collaborative team of physicians, research faculty, APPs, residents, fellows, and students.
Your day will be defined by a protected time model designed to foster academic growth: 0.6 time dedicated to clinical care, 0.1 to precepting, and 0.3 to research. You will provide comprehensive outpatient care to patients of all ages and perform common office procedures while collaborating with clinic leadership and interdisciplinary teams. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to precepting and teaching family medicine residents and medical students, evaluating learners, serving as a faculty advisor, and contributing to curriculum development.
Central to this position is the development and sustainability of an independent, externally funded research program. You will conduct high-quality primary care and population health research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present scholarly work, and lead or participate in clinical trials. The role also involves contributing to faculty development in research skills and scholarship. Supported by an EPIC EMR with DAX Copilot for AI-assisted documentation, you will have access to system-level care management resources and virtual tools, allowing you to focus on what matters most: caring for patients.
