New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region. We serve over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students each year. Our mission is to bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.
The Family Development Coach and Job Developer role is designed to build strong, trust-based partnerships with student participants and their families. Through a strengths-based approach, you will guide participants in setting realistic, achievable goals that promote self-reliance, personal growth, and positive behavior change. Your work will involve identifying challenges, exploring opportunities, and developing practical strategies to overcome barriers.
Simultaneously, the Job Developer component focuses on supporting students in securing meaningful employment, internships, and work-based learning experiences. You will collaborate closely with students, school staff, and external employers to cultivate partnerships, understand labor market trends, and prepare students for workplace success. This role is rooted in a relationship grounded in mutual respect, accountability, and empowerment, ensuring support is aligned with each participant's individualized plan.
Supported by funding from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the NDA Program serves high school students ages 14–21. The program provides comprehensive support in work readiness, college access, and career development. By combining workforce development, academic support, and family engagement, the NDA Program ensures students are prepared to achieve their educational and professional goals while developing the resilience and competencies needed for life beyond high school.
