This position serves as a vital link in our manufacturing operations, carrying out duties to oversee and coordinate the department's daily productivity and production. The role involves performing tasks personally or through subordinate employees to ensure seamless workflow. You will be responsible for reviewing equipment at the start of each shift, assisting with machinery such as head/tail stretchers, cooling tables, saw tables, and aging ovens, and making necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation.
A key part of your day involves inspecting products for quality and defects using visual observations, calipers, and a Webster Hardness Tester. You will identify defective products, determine possible causes, and adjust equipment accordingly. Additionally, you will support maintenance on preventive maintenance and downtime events, cover overtime for other Shift Leads or Press Operators as needed, and coordinate daily production requirements via the dispatch schedule to ensure efficient utilization of resources.
Safety is paramount in this environment. You will ensure that the work area and all shift employees follow safety regulations, including PPE, confined space protocols, spill control, lockout/tagout, and 5S standards. You will also conduct monthly safety topic meetings with employees and review measures to improve production methods, equipment, quality, safety, and service.
This position is based on the Third Shift, running from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. The work environment is characterized by loud noise levels and frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, high heat, and occasionally wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and vibration. Employees are regularly required to stand, walk, and talk, and frequently use their hands to finger, handle, or feel objects. Specific vision abilities including close, distance, and peripheral vision are required. Appropriate safety protective equipment must be worn at the proper times and in the proper environments as outlined by safety program rules.
