OU Health is the state's premier academic health system, introducing a groundbreaking hybrid nursing model that integrates both virtual and in-person teams to improve care coordination and bolster the nursing workforce. The Neurosciences Department is home to the new Neurology/Neurosurgery Care Unit (NNCU), located in the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Tower B, 2 East. This comprehensive unit features significant patient room upgrades and is designed to provide elevated care to some of OU Health's most complex patients through team-based collaboration and easier access to services.
Our unit specializes in all things Neuro, caring for a diverse patient population including strokes, seizures, brain masses, and neck and spinal surgery. We offer 24-7 epilepsy monitoring, where patients are closely observed for seizure activity. The NNCU focuses on delivering high-quality care while encouraging a culture of inclusion and relentless excellence.
As an Experienced Registered Nurse (RN) at levels I, II, or III, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to the highest quality of care in a hospital setting. You will model the OU Health Way by living our core values: putting Patients First, pursuing Relentless Excellence, showing Integrity, seeking Inclusion, always Learning, and valuing Teamwork.
In this role, you will manage a group of patients with complex neurological needs, documenting responses to interventions, administering medications, and initiating intravenous infusions. You will assist physicians in examinations and minor diagnostic procedures while advocating for patients and their families. The NNCU provides the necessary tools for you to successfully perform Yale swallow screenings and become NIHSS certified (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification), ensuring you have the specialized skills required for this unique environment.
Whether you are a novice advancing to competent or an experienced professional, you will foster a growth mindset by seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching, and developing a professional career plan aligned with enterprise-wide metrics. You will also play a key role in fostering an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued to achieve OU Health's winning aspiration.
