The Cardiovascular Unit at University of Oklahoma Medical Center is the only center in Oklahoma that reports thoracic surgery data to the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS). Our team provides specialized care for adult patients with cardiac, thoracic, and vascular diseases, as well as those requiring complex surgeries in these categories. We are dedicated to the OU Health Way, living our core values of putting Patients First, pursuing Relentless Excellence, showing Integrity, seeking Inclusion, always Learning, and valuing Teamwork.
As an Experienced Registered Nurse (RN) on our full-time night shift, you will deliver high-quality care in a high-acuity environment. Our unit maintains a patient-to-nursing staff ratio of 2:1, or 1:1 for higher acuity patients, ensuring focused attention on complex cases. You will care for post-operative cardiac surgery populations, including minimally invasive and open coronary bypass grafts, aortic root repairs, and thoracic surgeries such as esophagectomies and lobectomies. Additionally, you will support patients recovering from vascular procedures like endovascular aortic repairs and arterial bypass grafting.
This role is designed for nurses advancing from novice to competent practice. You will model OU Health's values through your interactions and work output, fostering a growth mindset by seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching, and maintaining professional certifications. You will collaborate closely with physicians to perform diagnostic procedures, administer medications, and manage intravenous infusions, while ensuring patient and family education regarding care plans and discharge procedures.
