This position is dedicated to the comprehensive diagnosis, repair, inspection, and maintenance of motorized and mechanical equipment across construction, highway maintenance, grounds, and automotive sectors. The role operates in varied locations, ensuring that critical assets remain functional and safe for daily operations.
You will serve as a vital technical resource, utilizing electronic testing equipment and service manuals to diagnose failures in vehicles and equipment. Your work extends beyond standard repairs to include emergency operations, where you will perform on-the-road fixes to minimize downtime during critical incidents. The role involves a blend of hands-on mechanical work and administrative precision, requiring the generation and closure of work orders, parts requests, and warranty documentation within computer systems.
Key responsibilities include performing major repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and computerized components. You will also execute preventive maintenance schedules, conduct Virginia State Police safety inspections, and engage in welding and fabrication to modify or rebuild components. Success in this role requires the ability to coach others in diagnostic techniques while independently managing complex repairs on diesel and gasoline trucks.
Candidates must be prepared to obtain a valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment, as well as a Virginia State Inspection License within 12 months. The position requires strict adherence to DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating equipment.
VDOT employees are expected to abide by the VDOT Code of Ethics and the Commonwealth's Standards of Conduct. This role demands a commitment to safety, including the use of safety shoes and the ability to perform heavy manual labor in diverse environments.
