About the Role
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for planning, directing, and administering environmental compliance functions across CalPortland's material operations, including concrete and aggregate sites. This role serves as a critical bridge between plant operations, corporate management, and regulatory bodies to ensure all facilities adhere to local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
In this position, you will oversee compliance programs, develop and maintain essential environmental plans such as Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and Spill Prevention protocols, and manage the permitting process for air, water, and mining activities. The role involves inspecting worksites, monitoring equipment, and investigating compliance-related incidents to drive continuous improvement. You will also play a key educational role by coordinating training for new hires and existing staff on environmental compliance programs.
This is a field-based role requiring travel to regional sites by company vehicle, with occasional overnight travel to out-of-region events. Success in this position requires the ability to work effectively under pressure, communicate knowledgeably with various governmental agencies, and physically access all plant areas and equipment.
